The other day I was having a conversation with a man named Damien, about the promotion he was running for his gym: a 7-day trial.

7 Day Trials, Discounted First Purchases and ‘Buy One Get One Free’ offers seem like a great way to attract new customers, however what we often don’t realise is that the people who take up these kinds of offers are already sold on your product or service.

This is why long term these promotions aren’t successful, those who are already interested will take advantage of the discount, however it does nothing to appeal to those who are not already sold.

This is where taking a more indirect approach comes in, and educating people on why your product/service is the best way to solve a need or desire that they already have.
